Doing the Right Thing

April 13, 2007 / by johnlance

My applause to the Rutgers Women's Basketball team and their great coach.
They did the right thing. They forgave Imus his transgression. If the so called victims could then why couldn't the sponsors of his programs? More terrible than what Imus did is what was done by Sharpton and Jackson who hold themselves as men of the cloth. We all fell down including the silent American Civil Liberties Union who has fought many unpopular causes to protect freedom of speech. Are we losing our minds in chopping off the head of a man who has done far more good than harm? The Black people should have started with the hip hoppers and rappers years ago. Della Reese on CNN said she had been fighting to get their act cleaned up for TWENTY YEARS and guess what, with little success. I do not see record companies, sponsors of T.V. Shows featuring Black Men and Women comedians spewing forth the most degrading language they could use about Black women. No chopping of heads here. Why? Sharpton has stated that he has fought this issue with the rap and hip hop community. Well he did so very quietly and without much publicity. I don't think the rappers and hip hoppers are going to appreciate Mr Sharpton and Mr Jackson's lack of forgiveness. Those young ladies from Rutgers and their Coach showed true character. We all should be proud as Americans in their handling this ugly situation.
Intimidation by men like Sharpton and Jackson may temporarily cower advertisers and others to give up doing the Right Thing and do what is wrong. The ACLU has been quiet in this matter. Why? Are only black people the victims in a black white situation? Take the Tawana Brawly Case. This young lady was a disturbed person who set off a firestorm. That firestorm was brought about by Reverend Sharpton who brought much harm and injury to innocent people. The young assistant district attorney and his family were put through hell because of his actions. He has to this date refused to apologize to those he did wrong. Mr. Jackson made many anti-Semitic remarks and involved himself with the Duke University situation. He claims he held back and his involvement was limited to offering the young lady a scholarship to college so she should not have to go about dancing naked. He offered it at the time that the Black Community became inflamed with hate believing that just because she was Black that the La cross Team Raped her. Adding to those flames was Reverend Jackson with his offer. The audacity he shows in telling us that it was wrong for those boys to be entertained by a Bar Dancer who dances topless (he said naked) for a living. How could this man who committed ADULTERY and had an illegitimate child and brought such agony to his family dare cast that first stone? I believe its a new era and Black People today are looking ahead. The young people have now grown up in a different atmosphere than their parents and grandparents. All Doors are open. The opportunities have never been greater than now for Black People. They are wiser now than ever before. You can not fool all of them all of the time.
It is wrong to rush to judgment when a situation occurs. One has to investigate and wait for all the facts to come in before making judgments that lead to wreaking the lives of others. Yes this was a opportune time for Sharpton and Jackson to shout about right. This is one of the times they were in the right all the way. Instead of handling themselves like the Rutgers team and their coach, they could not find it in their heart to forgive. Jackson himself sought forgiveness when he made those anti-semi-tic remarks and guess what, he was forgiven. To those people out there in Blog land if you feel like I do then write those stations that fired Imus of your feelings on this matter and suggest they forgive as the Rutgers Team did and reinstate him. He will never do this again, of that I am certain.

[THUMBUP] An excellent post. The Rev. Sharpton has personally given racist speeches which sparked riots yet he wants to censor Imus? Defend free speech!
