Recently there has been a public awareness of the fact that it is possible with invitro fertilization to remove cells that carry the Braca Gene, (Breast Cancer in Women), Huntington's Disease, Downs Syndrome, MS and many other inherited disorders or tendencies to develop various serious diseases. Basically they tell us that when the cell divides into eight cells they can take the eighth cell and examine the genes in that cell. If any carry the potentials for the illnesses I have referred to or other serious illnesses those cells can be removed and the remaining good cells can be used for the invitro fertilization.
What's Right? Sounds like we could create a class of Brainy Amazon Women and Herculean Men who would live at least 150 years or more. By selecting only those gene cells for genius, strength, height, etc, etc, we could create a "Master Race". Of course at $20,000.00 per invitro selection fertilization only the rich will be able to develop heirs as described above. This is the "ideal" so say the bio geneticists. Think of it: Utopia has arrived: No one gets sick, No one is average in intelligence, Brain power is in the genius range. Men and Women are all beautifully built and strong. All are very tall and everyone lives to at least 150 years. Methuselah is not imaginary nor a story. He is reality. Greek Mythology tells us he lived to 1000 years. The story goes something like this. Methuselah was asked by the Gods, if he had one wish what would he wish for? His answer: To Live a 1000 years. The Gods granted him his wish. After seeing wife, after wife, child after child, grandchildren after grandchildren live and die and he always remaining young and virile as the day his wish was granted, became morose. He was tired of seeing so many of his loved ones die and got tired of living. He pleaded with the Gods to end his life. He did not want to go on so long. The gods told him he would have to live out the years he got by his wish. The Bio ethicist say this creation of the perfect race is a serious question that should be debated etc etc.
What's Wrong? Question: The little I know of Biology does not make me an expert but is it not a fact that we regenerate new cells every day we live? and is is not a fact that all the organs etc of the human body are renewed by this process of cell's dying and new ones taking their place? What about the fact that some cells get damaged in this process and it is believed can become dangerous either through mutation or another way and become tumors and cancers? If that is correct then what issue is there with this dream of the Master Race? It can not happen. Even if all the genes in the beginning are of the best, finest, etc, is it not true that as we grow these cells die and regenerate new ones and even though the new ones supposedly carry the good genes, don't they get damaged, or mutated, so that we do develop serious illnesses and disorders. Do these doctors believe they can be GOD and know all the answers? I do not know the answer but I pose these questions to those scientists who believe they can create the perfect man and woman who can live forever free of disease etc. Are they forgetting the basic understanding of the laws of nature? We are animals like any other creature on this earth. If Nature sees there is an overabundance and not enough food for all, it decimates the population by disease or other catastrophe. Note: After each war where millions of men have died there is a shortage of men. A peculiar thing happens. Women after the war have more children, the families grow larger and in these families more boys are produced. Although today there still is this problem of a lack of men for women to marry and have children, in fact there are more men available now than there were prior to World War II, The Korean War and Vietnam War. Check it out. Perhaps man will not have any ethical problem because it will be solved for us by nature and God. What say you?
